Editing Posts with the Advanced Post Creation Add-On

Overview

This article explains how authors can edit posts created through the Advanced Post Creation Add-On (APC) when editing is enabled in the feed settings.

Usage

Authors can edit their own posts from the APC Posts List block when logged in.

Pre-Requisites

Before configuring the block or shortcode, ensure the following:

  • A Post Creation Feed has been created for the form. See Creating a Feed for the Advanced Post Creation Add-On.
  • The same form is embedded in a page or post that will be used for editing existing posts.
  • The APC Posts List block or shortcode has been added to display the user’s posts. Refer to this article for more information about setting up the block.

Editing a Post

  1. Log in using the same account that created the post.
  2. Open the page containing the APC Posts List block.
  3. Click the Edit icon beside your post.
  4. The Edit Post Page opens, displaying the same form used to create the post.
  5. Update the form fields and submit the form to apply changes.

What happens on form submission

When the edit form is submitted:

  • The same Post Creation feed that created the post runs again and updates the post with the new entry data.
  • Any manual changes made directly to the post in WordPress are replaced.
  • Editing is restricted to the logged-in author.
  • Post editing is not supported for forms with active payment feeds. This restriction exists because allowing edits on entries tied to payments can cause data and transaction inconsistencies.

Why does clicking the Edit icon in my list view not allow me to edit?

Clicking the Edit icon opens the Edit Post Page, but if that page does not include the form that created the post, the entry cannot be edited.

What happens if someone edits the post directly in WordPress?

The post becomes independent of the entry. If the original author later edits through APC, the feed will rerun and overwrite any manual post changes.

Why don’t I see the APC Posts List block?

The block is only visible to logged-in users. If you are not logged in, the list will not be displayed.

Why don’t I see any posts in the APC Posts List block?

Only posts created by the logged-in user are shown. If you are logged in as a different user, no posts will appear in the list.
